Will it happen at my place of employment?
Hang on to your hat, here are some facts when considering whether or not it “can happen” at your workplace. Recognizing that workplace violence (serious and lesser) occurs at almost all workplaces is the first step to preventing and preparing for an effective response. For example DID YOU KNOW?
• 2 Million Americans each year (that’s right 2 million)are victims of workplace violence of some sort
• 1,000 Americans are killed in the workplace each year
• 40,000 Americans are victims of aggravated assault in the workplace each year
• Workplace homicides account for 1 out of every 6 fatal occupational injuries each year
• More assaults occur in the healthcare and social service industry than any other occupation
Action vs. Reaction or Prevention & Preparation
Preventing and responding to violent or potentially violent intruders at our places of employment should include the development of policies and procedures to address the following:
Action will always be faster than reaction…………….
• Informing & Enforcing “Zero Tolerance” as the expectation
• Behavioral pre-cursors to “workplace violence”
• Recognizing behavioral pre-cursors and effective intervention to such
• Developing atmosphere and support resources for open communication
• Physical Security Entry Access Protocols
• Program & Policy Development
• Lock Down Protocols
• Secure in Place vs. Immediate Evacuation Response Protocols
• Employee management & locating during “secure in place” decisions
• What to expect from the law enforcement response
• Liaison w/ local law enforcement response & coordination of emergency action planning
Wew can not say it will never happen to us, we must prepare!

may not happen!" John Farnham

Thieves prey on people pumping gas
Thieves prey on people pumping gas
Reported by: Sun-Sentinel

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Police say thieves are after distracted drivers, that is, people who are distracted at the pump.
While you're busy filling up, robbers are busy picking your pocket!
Police also want to remind drivers not to leave their keys in the car.
They say a lot of the time people will leave the keys behind when they go inside to pay.
According to our news partners at the Sun-Sentinel, at least 15 gas station thefts over the past month are under investigation.

Training your Sub Conscious Mind.....
Personal Defensive Tactics LLC
Imagery Training for Wining and Survival and the Power of the Sub Conscious Mind!
For the armed or unarmed citizen....
Do you remember many years ago when you were first legally able to carry a concealed firearm? The first time you walked into the bank to take care of some banking business, you were armed in plain clothes. Suddenly you realized, hey, banks get robbed every day and so you began formulating a plan in your mind of what you would do if armed assailants were suddenly to converge on the very bank you were standing in? How you would move, what you would say, who you would shoot first? If you did, it was your introduction to “Imagery Training” and I can guaranty you have been doing it ever since that first session. You do not have to be armed with a gun or knife, just mentally motivated to be a “Sheep Dog” and not a sheep. I know I have and it has enabled me to survive several life and death encounters! I used to deliver yachts up and down the east coast of the United States for extra money. While running offshore there is much monotony and time of self reflection, or just plain nothing to do or look at except wide open ocean 360 degrees around you. So I would begin to work out scenarios in my mind of what I would do if the boat I was on suddenly began to sink. I did this on every trip; every boat as each boat and trip were different and required a new plan. So, what was I actually doing? I was formulating a plan; I was not writing anything down or telling anyone else, I was simply storing the information in my sub conscious mind, for use at no pre determined time or place. Well as you can imagine that time and place came through no choice of my own S—t Happens! I will give you the abbreviated version in my next article, in an effort to get to the point in a timely fashion.
I have been a student of the Sub Conscious mind for almost 30 years, and I am especially interested in an area of psychology; Let us call it the “Sixth Sense” if you will. Do ever recall walking a foot post or similar, and for some reason being drawn to a particular area or door? It may be to check the door to make sure it is locked as you continue on your rounds? It may be an underground garage or parking area as you pass through on Patrol. While the next day or several days later, the door you checked was kicked in and the business robbed? Or someone was attacked in the parking garage, precisely in the area you had walked through just hours before? Is this a coincidence or a pre-disposed consequence of a higher sub-conscious awareness, or just dumb luck or lack thereof? Why were all the ferries on scene of Flight 1549 on the Hudson River so quickly? Did the ferry Captains practice this in there sub conscious minds? Why do some people survive seemingly un-survivable events? Did they have some sort of rehearsal training in their mind? What will we be mentally capable of in 50 years as species? Are there really mind readers? Now let me digress and let’s talk about simply preparing for events mentally. We know imagery training is gaining in popularity, globally. We know by simply thinking about something in our mind and going over it time and time again, that we become better at it without ever actually doing it. Do you prepare in your mind what you will say before you talk to a group, go on a job interview? If so how much better is your presentation or performance? If you did it was your sub conscious belief or as I consider it addiction to “Imagery Training” and I can guaranty, if you prescribe to it can make a difference and will make a difference when you need it the most!

American Cities Brace for Terror and possible Mumbai-Style Attack?
The largest American cities are conducting drills, beefing security and testing vulnerabilities revealed by the devastating terror attacks in Mumbai, and many hotels continue to play Ostrich.
Security personnel around the country and world are intensively reviewing what happened in Mumbai to learn more about terrorists’ tradecraft and shifting tactics.
The shift has already begun, Police are addressing Mumbai-like scenarios where teams of terrorists fan out and use small arms and explosives to lay siege to hotels, hospitals, and other major institutions, and take hostages.
“We look at these new kinds of tactics and the way they orchestrated this, and modify our approach,” Michael Downing, the head of the Los Angeles Police Department’s counter-terrorism unit, told the media. “We’re looking at it very closely.”
Close to 200 persons died in Mumbai in a series of coordinated attacks that terrorized the city for more than three days.
On Friday, New York City police conducted the first U.S. training exercise based on the Mumbai experience. “Our goal,” New York Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told security officials, “is to find out as much as we can about terrorists worldwide, to understand who’s behind them, what motivates them, and what tactics they use.”
Other cities are responding to the Mumbai threat as well:
• In Boston, police have stepped up surveillance and are keeping an especially close eye on hotels.
• The Department of Homeland Security has warned hotels throughout the country to beef up security.
• Authorities at port cities are particularly concerned, given that the terrorists traveled to Mumbai by boat. “Our great vulnerability is the water,” Miami Police Chief John Timoney told USA Today.
• InterContinental Hotels says it has taken additional, unspecified security precautions in “high-risk markets” nationwide.
When the Los Angeles Times asked city Police Chief William J. Bratton the likelihood that city would face a Mumbai-style attack, he replied, “First off, we’re all surprised something has not happened since 9/11.”

Terror and The Opportunist.........
What makes a terrorist choose one target over another
when planning to machine gun and grenade attack
innocent people in a crowded public place?
Is the target selection based on some perceived
geopolitical transgressions against the terrorists'
demented cause? The terrorist would like the world to
think so, but if that was the case, why didn't the
latest attack happen in a place like Israel? Why
Mumbai, India?
FYI
A recent ABC report should be of concern to all Americans and to our elected leaders. It regards Shirwa Ahmed, a naturalized U.S. citizen who is believed to have committed a suicide bombing in Somalia and – even more disturbing – may have been involved in the recruitment of young men of Somali descent here in the United States.
The news report further states that more than a dozen such men, perhaps as many as 40 and mostly in their 20s, have "disappeared."
Wakeup America if you see something say something!
Please do not play Ostrich, America needs more Eagles!

NYC Worried about Mumbai-Style Attacks

The terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, have prompted authorities in New York City to beef up security at large hotels and Jewish centers, including the Lubavitch headquarters. We Knew this was coming....
Accrording to WCBSTV.com, the New York City Police Department had already been on high alert over concerns of a possible strike over the Thanksgiving holiday. But the attacks in India, which claimed about 200 lives, prompted enhanced security.
According to The Associated Press, victims of the Mumbai attacks include New York Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg and his wife, Rivkah, who were found at a Chabad Lubavitch Jewish center attacked by Muslim militants. Their son, Moshe, was saved.

The Ostrich and the Eagle..........
“THE OSTRICH & THE EAGLE”
As fellow instructor Brian Willis writes;
If you were to close your eyes and allow the image of an Eagle to come to mind that image would most likely be of a powerful creature soaring at great heights. The Eagle has served as a symbol of strength, power and majesty for decades.
Contrast that to the image of an Ostrich, with their head buried in the sand, as a symbol of those times in our life where we get caught up in that victim thinking and bury our head in the sand not wanting to face the world around us. For some people this is the way they live their life; for others it is occasional behavior.
When you find yourself in an important life and death situation, and you have a decision to make, you can choose to be an Ostrich or an Eagle.
We all make a conscious decision to be an Ostrich or an Eagle; the choice is yours and yours alone!

Today Home Security is a high priority element.....
Home Security
Today Home Security is a high priority element in the lives of many Americans. The broad spectrum of media bombardment keeps us all a little paranoid. I believe it is better to be safe than sorry (thanks mom & dad) and to be the Eagle and not the Ostrich. There are a number of home security products available that ensure not only the safety of the family, but also the valued possessions and belongings. Home security is as important for an independent home owner as for an apartment owner. In this current financial downturn, people are looking for security options that can alert the police or fire station, in seconds. Especially useful for the head of the household, who may travel a lot and spend time away from home. There is added peace of mind; though we never stop worrying about the safety of our loved ones it eases the burden. Growing up in a family with 7 children, seldom was the home left unattended, and when it was we always had the good old fashioned watch dog. The new age of high tech security systems ensures peace of mind as well as security to the dwelling’s occupants and belongings. The new age security monitoring systems have video cameras, sound transponders, etc. Installed and streaming live on the internet, which allows the home owner the ability to monitor the home from virtually anywhere on the planet?
Things to remember; your safety begins and ends with you, and like your sub-conscious mind Safety never Sleeps…………………
Stay safe,
Andrew
